In some cases when using Krisp with Cisco WebEx calling app, the participants can hear a loud echo, when the words they said are repeated back to them, making communication very hard.
The issue is visible when the user is using
- Apps: Cisco WebEx
- Platform: Windows, Mac
- Computer's built-in speakers are used
The issue is happening when the output of the speakers is fed back to the microphone and is not canceled by WebEx's built-in echo cancellation algorithms. This effect can be exacerbated when the computer is under heavy load and the performance is not enough to process audio quickly enough, which results in additional latency.
To mitigate the issue you can try the following
- Use a headset instead of the built-in speakers. This will not allow the audio to be fed back into the microphone and will help with this case.
- Make sure that the computer is operating normally and does not have issues with performance
Fixing the issue
Our team is currently working on a fix to this issue by having a built-in echo cancellation algorithm, which will not only fix cases like this but will also improve the echo situation for the apps whose own echo cancellation is not good enough. The fix is expected to be released in Q3 2020.
