Problem
Sometimes, when you use Krisp in a calling app, the call participants can hear their own voices when talking.
Preconditions
The issue can occur when you are using the built-in speaker of your computer or an external loudspeaker.
Explanation
The voices of other call participants are coming out from your speaker, then is being captured by your microphone and returns to them making the conversation really hard. Some applications have their own noise cancellation algorithms, but sometimes they do not handle the problem well enough when Krisp is present.
The problem can also be experienced when the computer is under heavy load and the performance is not enough to process audio quickly enough, which results in additional latency.
Solution
The issue is addressed in the Krisp Mac version 1.16.6 and higher by adding a built-in echo cancellation mechanism. If you experience the issue, please make sure to update Krisp on Mac to the latest version and and follow these 2 steps:
- Have both the Krisp Microphone and Krisp Speaker selected in your conferencing app.
- Enable the echo cancellation in Preferences >>> Advanced >>> Echo cancellation.
Workarounds
In case for some reason you cannot update your Krisp app to version 1.16.6 or higher, the following workarounds can help you mitigate the issue.
- Use a headset instead of the built-in speakers. Thus the audio will not be fed back into the microphone the other call participants will not hear their voices again.
- Make sure that the computer is operating normally and does not have issues with performance.
